You charge for your hosting: why shouldn't we use a free hosting company?
Many companies offer "free" web-hosting, but they will put their company
logo, and/or some sales information somewhere on your site. We charge a nominal
amount to host your site with us, and provide you with commercial free hosting

What is Web Mail?
Web mail is a web based interface to your own email directories on our web server.
If you use domain hosting, we will also offer to support a number of email accounts
based on your domain name. You can download the email in those accounts to your
own computer, using Outlook Express or a similar email client, or, as we offer web
mail, you can access your email with web mail as you would access a hotmail account
from any computer you happen to have access to

What is bandwidth?
Bandwidth is a measure that reflects how much data can be transferred over a data
communication channel.
In web hosting plans the allowed bandwidth generally indicates how much data can
be downloaded from your web site per month, and therefore indicates how many web
pages and pictures your visitors are allowed to download. If the average amount
of page views per visitor is assumed constant, the allowable bandwidth restricts
how many visitors you are allowed to have per month.
Just as important, however, is how fast the communication channel between your web
host and the Internet is. The amount of data that can be transferred per second
is also called the bandwidth of this channel, and this bandwidth is shared by all
the web sites hosted by the same provider. If this bandwidth is insufficient, you'll
sometimes notice a slowdown in the display of your web pages. In most cases, however,
such a slowdown is more likely to be caused by an overload on the web server itself

Is there any CPU Resource Limit in my Hosting account?
If one person uses too many CPU resources or creates a high server load at any given
time, that effects your website and other websites as well, which causes downtime
or slow response time from the server.
At UnlimitedGB.com we give your hosting account a 8% CPU resource limit, but if
you go over that limit your hosting account will be suspended.
On a Reseller Hosting account CPU resource limit is monitored only for the individual
domains of the reseller and not for the total reseller account

What is the Difference between Linux and Windows® Web hosting?
For all intents and purposes they both accomplish the same task that of serving
your Web pages to the world. We prefer that our customers use our Linux based web
servers and as such, this is the default setting when a customer adds a domain name
to their UnlimitedGB.com hosting account.
We recommend that our customers only use a Microsoft® Web server if they specifically
require Microsoft ASP® coding or Microsoft SQL® Databases or Microsoft Access®
Databases. Every effort is made to keep all of our Web servers as secure as possible
and our Microsoft® Web servers are security patched as soon as new updates become
available

What is the difference between Shared and Reseller hosting?
A shared account is for people that need just one primary domain hosting to host
their own site while on the other hand, Reseller Hosting is used by webmasters who
own multiple sites & want all their sites under one Account. Reseller hosting
is also used by people to start a hosting company so that they can sell hosting.
A shared account only has access to cPanel while a Reseller has access to WHM (Web
Host Manager) from where he can make more accounts under him & each account
he makes will have access to cPanel

What is FTP?
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) allows a person to transfer files between two computers,
generally connected via the Internet. If your system has FTP and is connected to
the Internet, you can access very large amounts of files available on a great number
of computer systems. If you are on Bitnet or a UUCP host, you should look for servers
that work through electronic mail (e-mail). A good source of information on archives
in general, is the Usenet newsgroup comp. Archives. When using FTP, you use a program,
called a 'client' to connect to a machine that holds the files, a 'server'

What is uptime?
Uptime is literally what it means - it is the amount of time your site is online
throughout the entire month.
The best uptime would be 100%, but because things can break, we offer 99.9% uptime
guarantees. This means that if your site is not accessible for more than 43 minutes
in a single month, we will reimburse you, depending on our terms of service

Consider sub domains as an extension of your domain. For example, your site is www.example.com.
A sub domain would be test.example.com, and another would be webhosting.example.com.
Sub domains are usually treated as separate sites from the main domain site

What is a catchall email-id?
A catchall email-id is the one that will receive emails sent to all those email-ids
on your domain that do not exist. It will act as a cover for all those spelling
mistakes in local parts (aliases) that a sender makes while sending emails at your
domain. For example, you have and email-id called sharat@yourdomain.com and someone
by mistake types it as sharath@yourdomain.com. Now if you have created a catchall
email-id on your domain, this message will get delivered in catchall email-id reducing
the risk of missing out on important emails. This concept is also called, as "Unlimited
Aliasing" which means that a catchall email account gives you the facility
to receive all the emails sent to your domain on a single email-id without having
to create one email-id per user and one email-id becomes unlimited email-ids. Since
this feature gives you the benefits equivalent to having unlimited aliases on your
domain, it’s called "Unlimited Aliasing"

I run Windows on my computer; do I need a Windows-based server?
The type of operating system you use on your computer has nothing to do with the
type of software that your server uses. Unix/Linux based servers commonly run websites
developed with Windows software without any problems. However, depending on the
types of scripts you will be running on your website (if any), it may be easier
to write the scripts on a computer using the same software as your server. If you’re
going to be using databases, their compatibility will also be affected by your choice
of server software

How do I upload my site online?
Uploading your site can be done in many ways, but the most popular is FTP.
When your hosting account was created, you should have been provided with an FTP
account. Using FTP software such as CuteFTP or WS_FTP, you can log into your host.
Then, using the program like a normal windows program, you can drag and drop files
onto your web host. These files become live online instantaneously. There are other
ways to upload your site such as using SSH or uploading files through your browser

How do I track how many hits my website gets?
There are a few things that need to be cleared in terms of terminology:
- Hits - this simply refers to the number of 'elements' loaded on your site. If one
page has five images in it, viewing that page once adds 6 hits (one page + five
images).
- Impressions - the number of times all the pages on your site are seen (also simply
called page views). Impressions are sometimes referred to as 'hits' which can cause
confusion
- Unique - the number of people that visited your site
So to clarify, if I visit your website, look at two pages, and each page has 5 images
on it, then your stats increase by one unique, two page views, and 12 hits.
Tracking on your site can be either done server-side or remotely. With server-side
statistics, log files are used to generate visitor information. This is usually
much more accurate than remotely hosted solutions. In such cases, you usually have
to add some javascript to your site. This JavaScript is then used to track visitor
data.
If your host provides it (and many do), server-side statistics are a good solution.
Otherwise, companies like Google Analytics can be used to remotely track your visitors

What exactly is web space and bandwidth / data transfer?
Disk space is the size your website can be. Every single letter on your website
has to be stored somewhere on the server. Each letter is one byte, and a megabyte
is roughly one million bytes. HTML pages are usually very small, but it is the extra
images, scripts, and even databases that can take up large amounts of disk space.
Bandwidth/Transfer is the amount of data the server will allow your site to send
in a month. Transfer is usually measured in gigabytes - billions of bytes

What is Shared or Virtual Hosting?
This form of web hosting should suffice for most everyone. Virtual hosting simple
refers to the fact that your site is on one server, and that this server hosts multiple
sites. You are virtually shared - your site will not be the only one on this specific
server.
Very few sites would actually need the power of a dedicated, so this option provides
to be a reliable and cheap solution.

What is Web Hosting?
Web hosting is the act of renting space and bandwidth through a company so that

What is a Domain Name?
A name that identifies one or more IP addresses. For example, the domain name microsoft.com
represents about a dozen IP addresses. Domain names are used in URLs to identify
particular Web pages. For example, in the URL http://www.domains4u.in/index.htm, the domain name is domains4u.in.
Every domain name has a suffix that indicates which top level domain (TLD) it belongs
to. There are only a limited number of such domains. For example:
com - commercial business
net - Network organizations
org - Organizations (nonprofit)
gov - Government agencies
edu - Educational institutions
in - India
us - United States of America
ca - Canada
Because the Internet is based on IP addresses, a not domain name, every Web server
requires a Domain Name System (DNS) server to translate domain names into IP addresses.
To register a new Domain Name go to
http://bookdomain.domains4u.in

How do I check to see if the domain name which I want to register is available?
Please navigate to the "Domain Name Registration" section under Services
Menu. Then search for domain name availability using domain name availability checker.
Use the form on this page and fill in the domain name you want to check and select
tld (e.g. .com). If the domain name if free to registration a link to the order
form will be displayed otherwise you will see the WHOIS information.
You can check multiple tlds at the same time by selecting the all option

What is Domain Parking?
Domain parking lets you buy a domain and then have a 'coming soon' page on it. This
is not needed - if a domain is not parked it will simply be inaccessible to anyone.
Most domain registrars provide this by default

Troubleshoot
I have uploaded my site but I still see a default Under Construction page. Why?
There could be one of two reasons. You may have uploaded your site to the wrong
directory. Your web site should be uploaded to either of the two directories.
public_html - for Linux Servers
httpdocs - for Windows Servers.
Alternatively, you may not have overwritten (replaced) the index.html file already
in the html directory. If your home page is called index.htm, make sure you delete
the index.html file currently there
I keep getting an error 403 - Forbidden message when I visit my site
You've removed the index.html file. If you have a file there called index.html,
make sure that it's in lower case. Linux based servers use case sensitive characters.
Some web servers will list all the contents of folders that don't have an index.html
file. This is incredibly bad for security and we don't allow this on any of our
servers. Hence the error message
